James Soon s Proposal: James Soon, free was one time a prima figure in the conclusion Kuomintang ( KMT ) , or Nationalist Party. Soong split with the gathering in November 1999 when he propelled his ain run for president. He tested the KMT s campaigner, Vice President Lien Chan. Soong, once the executive general of Taiwan s Government Information Office and in this manner pull offing director for two of Taiwan s countrywide communicate broadcasting web, has looked to separate himself from the strategies of the KMT lately. All the more late, from 1993 to 1998, he was legislative head of Taiwan Province. He has proposed a 30 twelvemonth non-hostility arrangement with Beijing. Soong delighted in a lead in the surveys until late Feb. , when the KMT documented a case avering Soong of defalcating $ 12 million from the gathering chief. Soong denied the accusal. At the point when the KMT neglected to do him its presidential campaigner, Soong blasted the gathering and started runing as an autonomous. Stung by his unfaithfulness, Lien and Lee have compared Soong to Adof Hitler and Philippines despot Ferdinand Marcos. They other than blamed him for defalcating $ 11.7 million I n the gathering financess. Be that as it may, Soong has denied the charges a few times. He says the cash originated from political parts and that he was endowed by President Lee to move out gathering endeavors. Among the endeavors, Soong says, was back uping the family unit of the late Chiang Ching-kuo Chiang Lai-shek s kid and replacement who guidelines Taiwan when it was under soldierly statute. Soong has offered to discount the KMT more than $ 8 million, yet the gathering has would not acknowledge the cash. After the charges were leveled in late 1999, Soong s prominence plunged essentially. All things being equal, the most recent surveys show he despi te everything appreciates a little lead over Chen. Lien Chan s Proposal and Position: ( Fig.4 ) Lien Chan, Kuomintang ( Nationalist Party ) is the handpicked substitution of President Lee Teng-hui and is the expectation of the conclusion Kuomintang, or the Nationalist Party, to separating to its 50-twelvemonth hang on power. Lien, who was chief under Lee from 1993 to 1997, has other than filled in as legislative head of Taiwan Province, outside close to home businesss minister and clergyman of travel and imparting. Lien has swore to better contacts with China and says he favors opening direst exchange and postal and air joins with the main land. Zara Supply Chain Analysis Free Essays

Zara’s Secret to Success In comparison to its competitors, Zara’s supply chain is quite unconventional. Instead of focusing on competitive product prices and advertising Zara has developed a super integrated supply chain paralleled by few (1). This supply chain allows it to rapidly respond to market demand and have extensive control over its design and production process (1). We will write a custom essay sample on Zara Supply Chain Analysis or any similar topic only for you Order Now Inditex, the clothing company that owns Zara is extremely vertically integrated. It is comprised of over 100 design, manufacturing, and distribution companies (3). Contrary to the common practice of ousting unnecessary labor, it handles most of its own manufacturing (60%), outsourcing only simple clothing designs. This extensive integration allows Zara to design, manufacture and distribute in as little as 15 days, which is lightning fast in the clothing industry (1). This is the essence of Zara. Zara releases new clothing designs every two weeks (2), creating a â€Å"made to order† feel as customers often have only one opportunity to buy a specific product (3). This strategy increases the frequency that customers visit the store and also decreases the need to mark down prices on unsold merchandise, saving the company money (2). Furthermore, this unusual practice reduces the cost of running out of one item. They sometimes even encourage stock outs to promote scarcity and therefore higher demand- a technique unheard of elsewhere (1). Image 1: Workers assembling clothing at a manufacturing plant Success of Zara and Goals of Target Zara’s responsiveness to consumer demands is one of its greatest accomplishments. Its designers perform extensive fashion research and communicate exceptionally with its retailers to accomplish this (2). Target releases new clothing every 6 months which is a snail’s pace compared to Zara. By improving the fashionableness of its products Target could expect more sales and less inventory to hold. Also, if Target could leverage more of its capital assets in the way Zara does more flexibility of production operations would result. Zara mainly integrates backwards in its supply chain in order to control its production operations (2). Mimicking this aspect would allow for more control of Target’s order sizes, order frequencies, and quality. Also, this would improve communication within the supply chain and therefore lessen the bullwhip effect. Furthermore, Zara produces more trendy and less basic clothing than Target. If Target augmented its ratio to be more similar to that of Zara it could realize more sales, especially in the women’s department. What Target Could Learn from Zara Specific ways that Target could improve its supply chain operations based on Zara’s model are as follows: For one, Target should improve its realization of market demand by increasing communication from consumers, and retail departments to producers. Programs should be implemented to foster constructive relationships between retailers and designers to communicate up and coming fashion trends. Also, designers should use consumer surveys, attend fashion conventions, and research the market to further meet demands for future trends. Furthermore, a method of collecting consumer feedback should be used to further study the desires of customers and how to meet them. This could be done at a relatively low cost and without much alteration to the supply chain’s basic function. Difficulties could include financing extra designer education, and obtaining valuable, relevant feedback from consumers. These are minor problems that would not be insurmountable. Increasing Target’s backward integration of the supply chain would increase production flexibility. Large manufacturers and suppliers that produce multiple major store product lines should be targeted. Integrating them into the corporation could potentially reduce extraneous costs due to order size inefficiency and the bullwhip effect. Product quality could be better controlled as well as communication. High costs of purchase and dealing with overseas firms could pose problems to this idea, but could result in a more efficient supply chain. Augmenting the ratio between trendy and basic clothing would also be beneficial to Target’s sales. Target currently sells 80% basic clothing and 20% trendy clothing. With the popularity of women’s clothes high, Target should move towards producing more fashionable clothing in more styles within the women’s department. This would boost sales of the more expensive trendy clothing and simultaneously decrease excess basic clothing inventory, increasing revenue and decreasing holding costs of basic clothing inventory. Making the shift to more trendy clothing production could be costly, but if done gradually would not have a huge impact on the financial sector. How to cite Zara Supply Chain Analysis, Papers

The War That Was Forgotten essays

The War That Was Forgotten essays For hundreds of years Korea was dominated by the Chinese empire. After Japan was defeated by the allies in WW II., Korea became occupied by the Russians in the North and the Americans in the South. Both the U.S. and the Soviets realized that Korea was a strategic country. It was important to occupy because it lay between China, Japan, and the Soviet Union. North and South Korea were divided by the 38th parallel, it split the country into two regions. Russia and America became politically involved in Korea, each set up strong governments. The United States wanted Korea to be held under democratic rule, while the Soviets wanted communist rule. They took these conflicting views to the United Nations (UN), which had just been set up to prevent another world war and help with international elections. The UN decided that both sides of Korea should have their own elections. The elections were held on January 12, 1948. North Korea favoured communism, the people elected the Russians and Kim I l Sung, a former guerrilla leader. South Korea favoured democracy and formed the Republic of Korea under U.S. educated, Dr. Sygman Rhee. The Soviets left a communist dictatorship with a well-trained, well armed, North Korean-Soviet army. In fear of the North Koreans newly developed strength, the U.S. left South Korea with some small arms and military advisors. The Korean War dates from June 1950 to July 1953. The war started on June 25 1950, when a Northern Korean(-Soviet) army invaded South Korea. The attack happened without the instructions and without the knowledge of Communist Russia or the Republic of China. The struggle started as a civil war, because Kim Il Sung choose the date for the attack. The date for the attack was badly taken, because the Soviet Union was boycotting the security Council of the UN at that time (due to the fact, that a communist representative from China was not allowed to enter the council). The Soviet Union would have been a...

The basic purpose of this research is to decide whether these surveillance systems used by companies to monitor job activities of their staff are ethical or not. They do not appear to be as such from the first glance. However, final conclusion will be made after having analyzed available literature on ethical perspective of organizations’ employee surveillance systems. Fundamentally, organizations are paying their employees for the work they do, so they have every right to monitor them in the offi ce because, while employees are working, they are considered as an intellectual property of the organization; therefore, organization possess every right to ensure that they are duly working on the tasks assigned to them. On the other hand, organizations must pay their employees on time, provide them friendly and healthy environment to work in and should take the responsibility of providing health insurance. Once an organization fulfills its side of the contract, then it wins the right to engage its employees within the boundaries of their job description. The above argument may appear to be vicious. However, scholars must attempt to understand the basic goal of the organization that is to maximize the shareholders’ return. In order to fulfill this promise, organization cannot allow its employees to waste organizational resources on wishful internet surfing, for instance. At the same time, this paper urges its readers not to take this literary effort as an attempt to issue a free license to organizations to violate human rights through enslaving the workers by intruding on their privacy. On the contrary, it is highlighting a basic right of organizations to direct the professional endeavors of their employees. According to Evens (2007), more than eighty percent of American organizations installed mechanisms to monitor employees’ activities, which include close circuit cameras and other similar devices. In reaction to this trend many of the scholars rose voices in order to eliminate this practice. But they are not willing to appreciate the positive impact of this practice on employees’ productivity. Additionally, employees are saved from old fashioned scolding from their bosses as due to technological interventions the latter can monitor the former ones remotely. At the same time, covert surveillance motivates empolyees to keep on working because of constant monitoring in their offices. However, nowadays polite management is a norm, but this humbleness thrives on the concept of paycut due to any professional deficiency on the behalf of employees. On the other hand, organizations are expected to communicate the workplace management rules in order to keep their employees well informed about the mechanism of control, which firms tend to deploy (Dillon, Hamilton, Thomas, & Usry, 2008). However, there is a statistically inverse relation between workplace surveillance and job performance measures

Demonsrate a basic understanding of the role and function of the nurse Essay

Demonsrate a basic understanding of the role and function of the nurse within mental health - Essay Example al health concepts and mental illness are few of the nurses’ responsibilities to the public as they deliver competent, ethical, psychosocial, physical, safe, and spiritual care to mentally ill people, and their families (Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nurses or CFMHN, 2006). According to Long, Fay, & Wilson (2001), Nurse Practitioners in mental health care setting are responsible for the health assessment; promotion of health skills; facilitate the order, conduct, and also help in the interpretation of lab and diagnostic tests. Licensed vocational nurses in the same way carry out the basic nursing skills which are dictated by the facility; the registered nurse and other higher authorities. Planning for optimal health functioning of clients, coordination of care and health teachings are provided by them as well. The Association of Registered Nurses (2008, p 11) has outlined seven (7) standards in nursing practice and the following are: Nurses Provide competent proficient care throughout the development of a therapeutic relationship; They perform or refine client assessments in the course of the diagnostic and also the monitoring function; They administer and monitor various therapeutic interventions; Nurses effectively manage speedily changing situations; Intervene through the coaching or teaching function; Aside from that, Nurses ensure the quality of practices in health care; as well as practices within an institutional and work-role structure. Note that each of the aforementioned standards includes a set of basic interrelated and interdependent competencies which articulate to others the desired and achievable degree of performance in the specific area. Anywhere in the world, health care system is seen as a very significant yet, a complex system as well as multidisciplinary in nature. The system comprises a network of services such as diagnosis, information, rehabilitation, treatment, maintenance of health, and prevention. In 1990’s, the concept

The Value Of Assessing Performance Business Essay

The Value Of Assessing Performance Business Essay An appraisal is an assessment of an employees performance, potential, and developmental needs. It is also an opportunity to review the employees quality of work, to reflect on what has been achieved during the period and agree upon the objectives going forward. Appraisals can benefit both employers and employees by improving their job performance, making it easier to identify what they are doing well, what they need to improve upon, and the most suitable action that needs to be taken for the future. I work for Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC); being a governmental authority DMCC is obligated to conduct annual and half yearly appraisal process. The mid-year appraisal helps to review the first six months performance and to highlight on areas that need improvement, thereby giving an employee adequate time to ensure that her/his individual objectives are achieved during the year-end performance review. This formal appraisal process is usually written and includes filling out a performance review form signed by both the line-manager and the employee. An important component of DMCCs performance appraisal process is the setting of SMART goals.   SMART Goals are extensively known and renowned tools in performance management.   Every employee is asked to document a series of goals that are Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Time-bound. Subsequent to the line managers mutual approval the employee then works towards accomplishing these goals in the year ahead. Besides the two formal bi-annual appraisal sessions, we also conduct informal appraisal and feedback sessions every quarter. These sessions may include feedback that is not always positive. It is always better to encourage the employees to view their appraisal as an opportunity, not a threat to their professional wellbeing. More importantly the line-manager must ensure that the meeting is a two-way conversation, not a lecture. A performance appraisal needs to be honest, even when employees might not always want to hear what their line-manager has to say. The success of the appraisal process depends on the line-managers readiness to complete a productive and objective appraisal and on the employees readiness to respond to constructive suggestions and to work with her/his manager to reach future goals. Motivating the team to improve performance in the workplace There are various factors that influence how employees behave at workplace and it all depends on  the nature of work that she/he does. For instance, it is fair to assume that an employee working within customer services is going  to get influenced  by how the customers behave. Also, the environment at the work place is very influential of how other colleagues behave with each other. If colleagues do not get along with one another at work then they may not perform to the best of their ability and may struggle to meet the objectives that the employer has set. The  relationship  between employees and the employer is also another main factor that affects the behaviour of an employee. It is possible that the employees  are not happy with certain factors or motions at the  work place  and therefore they do not feel passionate about their work. Thus, the line manager must ensure that  her/his team members are happy and re-think what improvements can be made to ensure that all employees are influenced to positively. There is a universal rule that happy employees contribute significantly in having  a successful business.   While it is important to discipline an employee for wrong doing, it is equally important to praise someone for achieving a challenging task. Motivation can be of many different forms. No standard form of motivation works for every person. Each form influences unique behaviour. Since each persons personality differs, so does the type of motivation. I work as a Senior Financial Accountant at Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). Having completed four years in my current role and six years overall I have seen myself grow and transform into different leadership styles. Currently supervising a team of three junior accountants, I am responsible of ensuring accurate and timely reporting of financial performance monthly. In my job I too have challenges to face when it comes to delivering management reports on time and ensuring that the reports have no material errors or omissions. There have been instances when the system goes down and reports have to be compiled manually, which can take longer time and require late sittings. Motivating juniors to be loyal and deliver despite odds is difficult if not done regularly. Incentive is a  common form of motivation that includes both monetary and nonmonetary rewards. I try and ensure my team is always content and the work load is shared evenly among the team. The weekly team meetings and q uarterly appraisals sessions are useful to gage a better understanding of the team and brainstorm collectively to find solutions to issues. Each one of us has different core competencies and utilizing the strengths of each individual productively is termed effective management. Renowned psychologist Abraham Maslow established the motivation theory which categorizes the five human needs ranging from basic survival like food and shelter to the need for self-actualization. Maslow believed that once one need is satisfied, an individual pursues to attain the next need. When applied to workplace, the theory implies that the line-manager must understand the existing needs level of each employee to ascertain what will motivate her/him. To illustrate, a new hire that has been unemployed for an extended time will motivated mostly by the need for basic survival. Alternatively, an employee focused on career advancement would be more inclined to achieve self-actualization; thus it would be wise to allocate her/him to higher-level tasks. Carrot and Stick is the one of the most traditional motivational theory recognized by philosopher Jeremy Bentham. It splits motivation into two basic elements: incentives and fear. Some employees are motivated by the aspiration to earn higher compensation, a desire to achieve status and power by moving up the ladder, or the need for commendation. But some employees act better out of fear: the fear of losing a job, being reprimanded by their line-manager or the inability to adequately perform a task. In my team, I often use the carrot and stick technique depending on the situation. The need to achieve a higher rating during the performance appraisal review session encourages employees to perform better and the fear of being graded low encourages employees to pull up their socks and improve their productivity. Since the performance rating is directly linked to compensation increments, every employee is motivated by the higher monetary reward carrot. The value of feedback in the workplace Regular feedback is essential to improve efficiency and harmony within the team. In most mediocre companies accumulative feedback is given once during the annual performance appraisal session. Conversely in a productive workplace, effective feedback is given at each opportunity. The line manager must ensure that feedback be given both at an individual level as well as the team level. Feedback should be relevant, sincere, and more importantly positive feedback should outweigh negative feedback. Furthermore the line manager must ensure that she/he build a positive basis which makes any criticism more acceptable and understandable. Giving frequent positive feedback encourages discussion and helps the employee to accept correction or criticisms feedback with a healthy attitude. The line manager should also give feedback that is specific and individualized. Giving lump sum feedback or team feedback is generalized and does not contribute as much to motivate productivity or create positive change. When the feedback applies to specific goal, employee, or objective it is more effective and has more power to impact behaviour. Pages = 3 Words = 1,260

Police Report

Police Report Tomas Gonzalez, University of Phoenix CJA/304 February 26, 2013 Oscar N. Ruiz Police Report There are various types of communication used through the criminal justice process, considering the witness, prosecution, judge, and defense they all have their own element of communication to get their message across effectively and to prove their point. Communication for Prosecution and Defense The type of communication used by the prosecution or defense is typically more formal than informal and consists mainly of verbal communication.Non-verbal communication becomes more prevalent when arguing points in front of a jury. The prosecution may offer a deal or plea bargain to the defense in an effort to avoid the expense and time involved with a trial. If a deal is not offered or reached, it is likely that the case will go to trial. At trial, the judge governs the communication by either the prosecution or the defense. Each party may object to something said by the other and the j udge will rule on if the information is acceptable. The two parties will argue their case to the jury and in doing say may make use of non-verbal communication to try and sway the jury.I like to view it as the difference between an actor acting as though they have tripped (verbal communication) and someone such as Jerry Lewis or Jim Carey using their physical humor to exaggerate or enhance the trip (non-verbal communication). Communication for the Witness and Judge The Judge uses both oral and written forms of communication, written forms usually go to the juries which include instructional sheets on how to be a proper juror and written paper work between both prosecution and defense attorney which can be anything from a warrant to a bail amount.A judge also listens to the oral statements during the case to ensure the case is handled proper and asks questions or controls the prosecution or defense when needed. A judge may also give instructions to the jury during the case, such as a cknowledging a piece of evidence or dismissing one, or dismissing a statement that may contaminate the case and jury. The judge may also hold a person in contempt for acting out in a courtroom or delaying the case, the judge will also make opening and closing statements addressing all those in the courtroom. The Witness will be using oral forms of communication. A witness is a person that has knowledge of the case they are involved in. Their testimony can either help or hurt a defendant. Both the prosecution and defense have witnesses. Written and oral communications are used within the courtroom in the Minnesota v. Riff case. In this case the prosecution has many witnesses that have information implementing Riff for the crime. Once the prosecution asks their questions the defense then has their turn. The defense attorney asks the witnesses questions in regards to what they said when the prosecution asked them questions and they also ask the witnesses their own questions. The defense attorney tries to pick apart the witnesses stories to help his client. The witnesses for the defense team usually tell a different story from the prosecution witnesses. The prosecution then has their time to cross examine. The written communications that are usually presented are the statements that are gathered at the time of the incident. When witnesses are first questioned at the scene they give information such as; the time of the incident, exact details of what happened, and where it happened. Co-Education

Argumentative essay – Separate-Gender Classes in Co-Ed School is the best solution to the situation Nowadays, many parents are worrying about the amount of distractions that exist in co-ed schools, which directly affect their children's academic performance. This is simply due to the fact that there are chemical reactions when different genders spend time together. Consequently, there are a number of negative effects, for example, achieving bad academic performance and inappropriate relationship for children. While it cannot be denied that this issue will not disappear soon, I have analyzed two long run solutions. The first is assigning students in single-sex school and the other one is allocating them in single-sex classes in co-ed school. The second solution means putting all girls in one classroom and all boys in another, while they are in the same school. In the following essay, I will explain why assigning students in single-sex classes in co-ed school is the best solution to solve the issue that parents are worrying about. One point which I consider to be absolutely vital is the balance of subject-liking preference for both girls and boys. In other words, there are gender-typical subject preferences in both education systems: Single-sex school and Co-ed school. A British researcher has carried the research based on the attitudes of the students toward different subjects. â€Å"Students at co-ed schools tended to have gender-typical subject preferences: boys at co-ed schools liked math and science and did NOT like drama or languages, whereas boys at single-sex schools were more interested in drama, biology and languages.Likewise, girls at girls-only schools were more interested in math and science than were girls at co-ed schools† (Stables. 1990). Brian Walsh, who has been a principal at both boys' schools and co-ed schools, also made the observation: â€Å"Boys ordinarily do not even try to sing in a co-ed school, whereas they love choral sin ging in a boys' school; in the co-ed setting they make fun of French pronunciation, whereas in the single-sex setting they enjoy becoming fluent in French† (Riesman, 1990).There are gender-typical subject preferences in both single-sex schools and co-ed schools. However, this issue can be balanced by combining the ideas of single sex classes and co-ed school together in one school. In order words, implementing separated gender classes within a mixed gender school can actually balance the issue of subject-liking preference. There is a research carried by University of Cambridge can prove that separating students for some subjects help them to concentrate and improve their exam grades in the classes. Many girls and boys feel more at ease in such classes, feel more able to interact with learning and to show real interest without inhibition, and often achieve highly in all the performance† (‘Separate class needed for boys', 2005). Specifically, if we apply the second so lution to the school system – putting girls in one classroom and boys in another classroom in co-ed school, there are no or less gender-typical subject preferences. Different genders will try hard on the subjects that they don’t prefer to study as in co-ed school and in single sex school. For example, boys will be more likely to sing in the class and will also like mathematics and science as well as drama, biology and languages. Therefore implementing separated gender classes within a mixed gender school can not only balance the issue of subjects-liking preference, but also allowing children to become more well-rounded students, which I believe this is something most parents hope to see. There is less interaction between genders in a single sex school, which means it has less distraction for students than co-ed schools. However, in terms of social life, less interaction from different genders means less practical social abilities in daily life in single sex school. In or der to reduce this problem, a separate-gender classroom in a co-ed school system is the ideal solution. Therefore another benefit of having single-gender classroom within a co-ed school system is the self-development of students’ social skills. As in single-sex school, since all peers are girls in girls’ schools and all classmates are boys in boys’ schools, there is no interaction between different genders inside the school in daily life.Ruben A. Gaztambide-Fernandez, an assistant professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, has mentioned that â€Å"Single sex schools shelter the opportunity of social behaviors from students. †(Aschaiek, 2012). On the other hand, many people think that the interactions between male and female students are too frequent in co-ed schools, which may cause unexpected and complicated relationships. In my personal opinion, it is true that there is not enough cross-gender interaction i n single sex schools and there is too much interaction in co-ed schools. Therefore, In order to balance to the interactions between different genders to maintain a considerate relationship and healthy social life, applying the second solution of separate-gender classrooms in co-ed school is the best alternative to this issue. This could be further explained by increasing the activities between different genders in their break time after the separate-gender classes in co-ed schools. To sum up, even though single sex schools have many other advantages for children to study, separate-gender classes in co-ed school is still the best alternative to solve the worry from the parents. It may not only improve children’s academic performance, but also help their social abilities to be more confident in dealing with any problem in a relationship. More importantly is that girls at the separate-gender classroom have less stereotyped thoughts about the role of a woman. Co-Education – A Detailed Essay Co-education means the education of boys and girls together. In our country there is co-education in some college and schools, in most colleges and school there is separate education for boys as well as for girls. Co-education has remained controversial issue in our country. Some people are in favour of this system and want to introduce it in all schools and colleges. They say that this system is very useful. They give many arguments in its favour. Their main argument is that in poor and backward country like Pakistan it is impossible to maintain separate institutions. Therefore co-education should be opened to girls also. The supporters of co-education also say that in progressive society men and women should come closer co-education would provide an opportunity to the young men and women to understand each other. This would be very helpful for them in future life.It would also be good for the progress of the country raise the standard of education. Because it will promote competition among boys and girls. In fact the supporters of co-education are talking of its benefits in such a manner, if it is only road to heaven. A little thought would expose the hollowness of these arguments. Everyone who has visited even a couple of colleges and schools knows that all of our institutions are frightfully over crowded. The girls’ schools and colleges too are over-crowded. Hundreds of new educational institutions are needed. It some of these are reserved for girls, it would not cost more to government. If number of girl’s students were small then the consideration of economy would have been partly valid. The second argument is also not valid if young men and women can’t understand each other in their homes and families, then they would not be able to do so in the school or college. Why that one is feels that one can understand the opposite sex only if one meets one’s neighbours daughter. The system of co-education will not raise the standard of education. Temptation of flirting is strongest than the urgent reading text books co-education will create many problems not only for the students but also for teachers.Temptation does not distinguish between the students and the teacher. The real reason why some people support co-education is that they like western culture. They want to be more English than English because west has co-education so they must have it. But we have to consider whether our religion, our culture and our circumstances allow us to adopt co-education. I can say that they certainly not allow us to adopt such system. If co-education is inevitable one would agree to it. But it is not a necessary evil. And there is no reason that we should patronize everything with foreign name.If it is necessary we should adopt it only at elementary level while at secondary level and higher secondary level there should be separate system of education. By adopting this system at secondary and higher secondary l evel we will only be able to promote vulgar-ness in our society. Essay on Co-Education System Co-education is a system of educating boys and girls together. In ancient times, co-education was prevalent in Greece. Today, this system of education is there in almost all the countries of the world. It is economical. It generates a spirit of comradeship between boys and girls. The problem of shortage of trained teachers can be dealt with by this system. Boys overcome their curiosity and girls, their shyness. They learn to respect one another. Though a few conservative people are against this system, their views do not hold ground. Co-education generates harmonious relationship, a sense of co-operation, and thus, helps in the progress of the nation. Co-education is a system of educating boys and girls together. In ancient times, co-education existed in Sparta in Greece. There was no discrimination between boys and girls. They studied and played together.Along with academic education, physi cal training was also given to both the sexes. Plato, the Greek philosopher, believed that co-education helped in the development of personality of both men and women and created a feeling of comradeship among them. He felt that co-education was the only method to make both men and women useful members of society. Hence, in the west, the importance of co-education has been felt since ancient times. In early Vedic Society (Ancient India), co-education was prevalent in a few places. But gradually female education began to be ignored. Moreover, the system of education was quite different from that of today. The boys stayed in Gurukuls, for the whole educational period. There they received both in academic education and physical training. The former included the study of the scriptures and the latter, training in warfare. Girls were not sent to the Gurukuls, and thus were deprived of the benefits of education. In medieval India, those belonging to lower castes and the womenfolk were not allowed to attend schools or study the scriptures. Raja Ram Mohan Roy, great social reformer and scholar, fought against this practice and succeeded in his mission. His job was further carried on by other social reformers. Today, co-education is prevalent in almost all the countries of the world. In India, there are a number of co-educational schools, colleges and universities. There are a number of advantages in the co-educational system of education. It is economical. Poor countries cannot afford to open separate schools for boys and girls. If boys and girls are taught together in the same school, then there will be no need to open separate schools for them. Thus, the cost to be incurred on building infrastructure, furniture, stationery, personnel recruitment, etc. will be saved. There is a shortage of good trained teachers in developing countries like India. If there is co-education, same staff can teach both boys and girls at the same time in the same class, and the problem of sho rtage can be dealt with. Establishing more of co-educational schools can help in spreading literacy even with the limited teaching staff and infrastructure. Thus, it will be beneficial for both boys and girls and the nation as a whole. Co-education helps the boys and girls to intermingle and understand each other well. They become more broad-minded and tolerant towards the opposite gender. They interact freely with one another, thereby overcoming hesitation and shyness. Thus, co-education leads to a healthy and harmonious relationship between boys and girls. In a co-educational school, boys are free to meet and talk with girls. They develop a feeling of friendship among themselves. Boys then, usually don't indulge in eve-teasing. Co-education contributes to the balanced development of the personality of boys and girls. A new study has revealed that the co-educational schools are better as the presence of girls in classes restrains boys from indulging in unruly behavior and improves t heir academic performance.Infect, a higher percentage of girls not only lowers the amount of classroom disruption but also fosters a better relationship between students and their teachers. The researchers found that classes with more than 55% of girls resulted in better exam results and less violent outbursts overall. Boys with more female peers in their classes showed higher enrolment rates in both advanced mathematics and science classes, but overall benefits were found in all grades for both sexes. They conclude that this effect is due to the positive influence, the girls are adding to the classroom environment.Infect the study found that primary school classrooms with a female majority showed increased academic success for both boys and girls. In the middle and high schools, the classrooms which had the best academic achievements overall were consistently those that had a higher proportion of girls enrolled. The researchers suggest that boys and girls may learn differently, but it is better not to send them to sex-segregated schools. Boys become conscious of their dressing habits, behavior and the style girls. They work hard to remain ahead of one another.Co-education reduces gender bias in the society. It generates a feeling of equality between both and sexes. The feeling of male dominance may be wiped out from the society if this system of education is given importance. However, some people are opposed to the system of co-education. According to them, this system is against the Indian culture and tradition. It is also argued that girls feel freer in an institution which is meant only for girls. As such they have greater scope of developing their personality. They also participate in sports, dramatics and debates more freely.Teachers of some subjects like Biology also find it easier to explain some chapters more thoroughly if only girls or only boys are sitting in the class. Sex education has also been introduced and in co-educational schools even teache rs find it difficult to discuss such topics in the class. It is also felt that since students (especially teenagers 13-19 years of age) are of impressionable age, the possibility of their going astray is much more in co-educational institutions, where they enjoy more freedom of intermingling with the other sex. They also do not remain focused on studies. It should be acknowledged that in the fast changing society of twenty first century co-education has to become the order of the day. Today girls are entering all professions in large numbers. Many of them are heading big organizations. Co-education will help young boys and girls to mix freely and understand one another better. Today's children are tomorrow's citizens. We must encourage them to develop their personality in a free healthy atmosphere. Girls no more have to remain confined to the four walls of the house. Co-education will help both sexes to learn and work together for the progress of the country.

A Tense Atmosphere in the Opening Scenes of The Matrix Essay

A Tense Atmosphere in the Opening Scenes of The Matrix There is a sense of mystery created in the opening scenes of ‘The Matrix’. One of these things is the alternating green digits at the very start. The viewer is not aware what is happening, and then one by one the columns of numbers stop alternating and fix on one number, creating a tense atmosphere as the viewer is unsure what numbers will be shown, or what will happen once they have stopped. This is enigmatic as the viewer does not know what this number signifies or what the green digits are there for. The dialogue between two people on the phone is also used to create a gripping atmosphere as they begin to talk about killing somebody, but the†¦show more content†¦Sound is used in the beginning of ‘The Matrix’, during the alternating digits scene, as a way of gripping the viewer. As the digits are quickly changing a keyboard can be heard typing, as thought somebody is typing the digits. This grips the viewers as it makes them wonder why somebody would be typing these digits, and what their purpose in the film is. The scene after this, the police scene, has no sound, apart from one loud bang as the door is kicked down. This has created a gripping atmosphere as the silence shows that the police do not want anyone else to know that they are there, and the kicking of the door makes the viewer jump, as they are not expecting such a loud noise after so much silence. The pace of the opening scene of ‘The Matrix’ scene also creates a tense gripping atmosphere. It is a very fast paced sequence, quickly moving from a phone conversation with two people to the police breaking down a door and pointing a gun at the head of a woman on a computer. As the police aim at the woman, there is a stillness which creates a tense atmosphere, as the viewer is unsure who will make the first move, and they are waiting for something to happen.
